Our Update on International Data Transfers and the New Standard Contractual Clauses

Out with the old, in with the new. RingCentral provides customers with new standard contractual clauses and additional safeguards.

On 4 June, the European Commission adopted new Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). These clauses govern all transfers of personal data out of the European Economic Area (EEA) to a third country, which is a nation that the European Commission has not deemed as providing an adequate level of data protection.

The EU Commission adopted the new SCCs to incorporate parts of the Court of Justice of the European Union’s judgment in Schrems II. This highlighted that the original SCCs did not adequately address the EU Commission’s concerns about protecting EU personal data transferred to a third country.

As part of its ongoing commitment to European data protection, RingCentral began planning for the changeover right away, to be able to offer the new Standard Contractual Clauses to customers by the legal deadline of 27 September.

What is the new Trust Center and what are the new SCCs?

Now RingCentral is ready to provide customers with the new SCCs and resources providing information regarding our data transfer risk assessments. Customers will be able to access all of this through the new Trust Center. In the Trust Center, customers will find:

  • Personal data transfer resources

We have a dedicated section to personal data cross-border transfer out of the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Through the Privacy Trust Center, customers can find our customer data transfer agreement based on the standard contractual clauses. Customers can also access our data transfer risk assessment FAQs.

Everything you need to know about how we respond to customer data requests submitted by law enforcement and government agencies. Read the report
  • Transparency report

Our recently published transparency report compiles all customer data requests received during the previous year. The current report details how many law enforcement requests we received in 2020. It also shows the countries these came from and the type of data we provided.
